I would like to point out two things:

if we had the gold standard, we would need no federal reserve. this is because the finite amoutn of gold in circulation would inherently cap inflation, which is the purpose of monetary policy set by the Fed.

also, there woudl be little use for the IRS if there were a flat tax rate of, say, 10%

I only write this because Ron Paul, the topic of the previous post, is in favor of these seemingly anachronistic ideas. though, perhaps, they have more utility than we give them credit.

mice are pests. we kill flies and pathogenic bacteria without a second thought... why are mice different? because they're "cute"?
